FAQs

Here to help! If you have any questions or queries about our products or services, check the below - and if you don’t find the answer you’re looking for, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What size should I get?

Good question! Rather than linking to clothing sizes, our belt sizes are created by the location of the buckle holes (given in inches), and so a lot of it will depend on the height at which you wear your belt or the bulk of trousers. Our belt sizes are standardised so the measurements are the same for everyone.

The safest bet is to measure a favourite well worn belt from the end of the leather where it meets to buckle to the most used hole. Or try measuring over your trousers as you would wear the belt in order to get an idea of the ideal size - each of our belts come with 6 holes so there’s plenty of space to play with.

See more here: Belt Size Guide.

How will you ship my order?

We ship all our orders using Royal Mail and all going well will dispatch within 3 days. It can take a little longer for bespoke or custom items - but we will always get in touch if there is likely to be a delay to your order.

What’s more, we’re delighted to offer free delivery to the UK on orders over £30, and for International orders over £100.

For all the details on how long it takes for your package to arrive, have a look here: Delivery Information.

If I change my mind can I have a return or exchange?

Of course - it happens to the best of us! Simply click the link below for a copy of our Returns Form, then we’ll arrange your exchange or refund for the product as soon as we receive it.

Full details of our Returns and Refunds policy can be found here: Returns and Refunds.

Do you make bespoke or custom orders?

Yes! We love to hear from interested leather fans about their ideas for projects or adaptations or alterations to create unique one off pieces based on our existing designs.

In addition to the flamboyant and fabulous work we craft for stage production, we love to create interesting custom pieces from clients with a vision for creative, unusual and specific leather accessories. From custom leather straps to carry binoculars to re-creating props from the virtual world, we had a lot of fun collaborating with our clients to help fulfil the leather requirements they may have.

Here is a fuller description about our custom work and how to get in touch: Bespoke Leather Goods.

How come your products are so cheap?

Our London workshop houses a collection of unique machines which, when combined with our small team of experienced and dedicated craftspeople, allows us to create beautifully crafted, timeless pieces that are affordable for everyone. By producing our designs in small batches we have found a good balance. We can work quickly and efficiently, to keep our prices low. We aren't greedy; we make enough money to keep the business's cogs turning, then we pass these savings onto you, by providing quality, long lasting pieces that don't cost the earth.

What about personalisation/monogramming?

Absolutely, currently we only offer this service on our Card Holders, but do get in touch if you have a particular request and we can see if it’s possible.

There is an additional charge of £10 for up to 10 characters and we emboss the message using the classic Baskerville font, with complimentary silver or gold foil  matching the VL branding on the piece.

For examples of monogrammed pieces and for an insight into the personalisation process, please see our post here: Our Personalisation Service.

Do you have any stockists I can visit?

We do indeed! Our main outlets are both located in Covent Garden, right in the heart of London. Here you can see everything available on our website, as well as some limited edition pieces. The awesome staff will be glad to help if you’re looking for something in particular, and they’ll know your belt size by just looking at you.

Our shops are open 7 days a week from 10am to 6.30pm. For all the details, have a look here: Get in Touch With Us.

What’s the best way to look after my leather accessories?

Our leather accessories are very low maintenance, but if you’d like to give them a polish now and again, we’d suggest using a leather cleaner and a soft cloth or using a leather conditioner for our classic belts (we’d recommend using one with beeswax and/or natural oils). You should be able to find something appropriate at your local cobblers.

Do try not to let your leather accessories get wet, but otherwise with a little attention and affection we hope that your VL products will wear well and last you a lifetime!

What type of leather do you use? Are all of your products real leather?

We currently work exclusively with leather. Although, we are experimenting with some sustainable leather alternatives to see what’s possible!

Most of our products use vegetable tanned leather. Vegetable tanning uses natural, organic materials to process hides from a raw material into high quality Leathers. With no harsh chemicals being released into the environment, it is the most eco-friendly method of leather tanning.

Once a belt or bag is ready to retire, because it’s made from veg tanned leather it can be biodegraded. It takes veg tanned leather around 50 years to decompose, compared to 1000 years for its plastic counterpart. All our product information is available on the product page so look out for items labeled as veg tanned Leather if you’d like to make the most environmentally friendly choice.

We work with just a handful of Tanneries who make our leather.  Our vegetable tanned leather is produced to the standards set out by Pelle Al Vegetale.  These standards include a commitment to only using hides which are a by-product of the meat industry and member tanneries investing in waste recycling systems to recover and reuse substances. You can read more about them here.

We take care to craft our products in a way that ensures they can last a lifetime, they can even become well loved hand-me-downs.  Our veg tanned Classic belts have a 25 year warranty and we offer a repair service for our customers treasured items. Read all about our Classic Belt’s 25 year warranty here.
